This past month and a half has been an exciting time. Art at GIO: Chapter 2 really hit it off and we saw so many wonderful submissions from an array of talented high schoolers in the Bay Area.
Photography Contest 2021
At GIO, we’re passionate about sharing the important moments in life and opening our hearts as a community. Chapter 2 of our Art at GIO Photography Contest did just that. We asked students to share their experiences and feelings during this difficult time and they responded!
Our theme: “Stay Home & Conviviality – Back to Life!” invited students to reflect inwards and share moments from their time in home confinement, as well as the experience of living life through a screen and finally the feeling of life getting back to normal.
Chosen by a panel of professional photographers and artists as well as voted upon by the public, the results are finally in! Without further ado, here are our lucky winners:
Ian Carlson, “HOMEwork”
“The covid-19 pandemic has sapped our mental strength and left us with our primal intellects and interests playing minecraft as seen on the computer.”
Pari Saluja, “Thinking”
“This picture really captures how quarantine/lockdown has given us all time to think – about others, about ourselves, our lives, the future and it’s given us the opportunity to grow into better people.”
Seventh Place (2)
“This specific image was important for me, reflecting how during the pandemic I felt silenced and confined.”
Sachin Kumar Singh
“We often forget the minor details in the bigger picture. Where one sees two wild animals I see the chains barricading between a mothers love.”
Ninth Place (2)
“To me, this photo portrays the feelings of isolation and longing.”
Tenth Place (2)
“First high school outing during senior year, experiencing the joy of redemption through free donuts at Krispy Kreme!”
Madison Rowland Auffarth
